Reviewing the Taste of the Great Notts Show, One plate at a time.

This weekend you certainly weren’t stuck for choice. To say that there was a variety of hot food and treats would be an understatement and this show was one of the most diverse and multicultural yet. Tastes stretched from Nottingham’s own butcher Johnny to ‘Foods from Spain’ treating us to paellas, chorizo and omelettes. All stations were covered, if anything the difficulty was deciding what not to have.

For those with a passion for Tex- Mex food, ‘nachos amigos’ who brought along their infamous burritos with homemade salsa didn’t fail to please.  They are back at the end of September so if you missed trying their delicious tortillas do not fear! Something a bit different was ‘I love Ostrich’, definitely not something you try every day, as well as Ostrich they bought other rare meats which went down a storm.

‘Tasty Thai Cuisine’ brought an oriental zest to the show. If you like it hot and spicy then this was the place to be, with a wide range of choice including everyone’s favourite ‘pad thai’ to the more exotic tastes of beef pagnang and green chicken curry. Greek Gods Yamas meze (the best greek restaurant in Nottingham!) served up some yummy tapas and their specialty Greek gyros. For the romantics among you ‘Four Seasons Pizza’ wooed everybody with hand prepared pizza and toppings of your choice, cooked in a stone oven. Our very own Gary couldn’t resist taking a mouthful getting a hot surprise realising it was a slice of pepperoni with extra chilli…That will teach him!

Keeping it traditional and typically British were the Posh Pork Pie company…ooosh!! By no means your box standard pork pies these were filled with various fillings, flavours and were absolutely scrumptious. ‘The Great British cheese company’ funnily enough provided Notts with Great cheese from Great Britain. For those that like their cheeses GBCC was simply a must visit, resourcing their products from only the best local farmers you can be sure of having the highest quality of cheese. What better way to finish a day dedicated to eating than to go home open up a bottle of vino and carry on eating some premium cheese and crackers, YUM!

If savoury isn’t your thing then there were plenty of sweet treats around too. ‘I love Crepes’ got a great audience dishing out delicious crepes all day with endless fillings to choose from, who doesn’t love a Nutella pancake.  ‘Chocolate Alchemy’ were back with a mouth watering selection of chocolate brownies and Tiffin’s, if you’re a chocolate addict then these guys are simply irresistible!
